Episode 5 -- Exploring the Mountain Dungeon

The session started in the hall of mirrors.  Lumi had just narrowly escaped petrification by a giant snake type of basilisk.  She ran past the other team members to get away from her petrifying pursuer.

The monster turned its attention to Daumpney.  It failed to petrify him.  But it did bite and poison him.  He might have landed blows against the monster.  But he had to retreat beyond the monster's immediate reach.  So the monster turned its attention to Arpina.  Her legs immediately started turning to stone.  She did manage to strike the monster with her weapon.

Mortimer had been standing behind Daumpney.  He had already landed two blows on the monster while Daumpney was between him and the monster.  He successfully avoided meeting the monster's gaze after Daumpney's retreat and started inflicting damage.  Mortimer cunningly lept behind the beast's head and straddled its snaky body as he sneakily delivered his fatal psychic blows upon it.

Arpina's petrification was still progressing and was beyond her neck immediately after the basilisk's demise.  No one had magic or potions to reverse this fatal disease.  Mortimer drew upon his leatherworking background to reason that basilisk must have internal organs that reverse petrification of prey during digestion.  So he cut the beast open, found some fluid filled organs within, and rubbed the oily internal fluid on Arpina until her petrification reversed.

The team then harvested the beast's valuable head and hide for future sale.  (There was no mention of leftover anti-petrification oil.)

The team walked through the basilisk's tunnel and found themselves in another nicely furnished hallway.  There was a room hehind a door that had pink fleshy walls and a many-fanged mouth in the floor.  There was another room that sucked Lumi in which had a black hole in the floor.  She was then extracted from the hell mouth room uninjured.

The team found a hallway that was lined with many-colored  living billiard ball sized eyeballs that had little tails.  Lumi destroyed them with fire.  Then the team went through a double door down this hall.  They found themselves in a bedroom.  The team slept the night there after searching through the dressers and book cases.  Mortimer found a Cloak of Useful Items.  He plucked one patch from it and found himself in possession of a scroll of flying.  He put the robe into his backpack and put the scroll into his utility belt.  Arpina found a possibly magical  conical wizard hat.

In the morning the team tried to find a way through a magically sealed exit from the bedroom.  Daumpney figured out how to open the door by playing a tune on a adjacent pipe organ.  He had drawn on his experience with church organs during his time in a monastery.

Arpina followed a divine inspiration by setting the robe closet ablaze after the team exited the room.

After passing through the unlocked magic door, the team found itself in a spacious eating hall.  A warm roast turkey was on one of the tables.  Mortimer enthusiastically partook of a turkey drumstick.  But everyone else ignored the hot food while they walked across the room to its exit.

The next room was circular, had doors at every hour mark punctuated with decorative standing suits of armor, a coffin at 10 o'clock, and a central depression in which a large skull shaped thing was vertically propped.  There were also two glowing orbs on pedestals, one blue the other purple at the 4 and 7 o'clock positions.

The team spent time in this room opening the doors and coffin, et cetera.  There were many false doors.  The coffin turned out to be an expression of humor.

Eventually the group found a way into another circular room that had a cloaked figure laying face down on the floor.  Mortimer was shocked and saddened to learn the body was his good friend and mentor Kenny the Kentucky.  Kenny was clutching a dagger to his chest.

<--Lily remembers a note Kenny was clutching in its hand.  She says the following text was scrawled on the paper.  -->

"When the two ancient bloodlines join together with humans and the slaved ones, the earth will shatter and they shall either end the war or watch the world burn."
