Episode 4 -- Entering the Mountain Dungeon
<-- The session started with the party at the now opened entrance of a mountain gate house that is built into the mountain along the trail of blue lights. -->
The team entered the building. They found themselves in a nicely furnished hallway library. There were numerous papers that appeared blank. The team explored the room for awhile. Daumpney and perhaps others took some of the scrolls that were on undyed paper. Mortimer took a couple scrolls that were on red or yellow paper. There was a table with a magically suspended spinning globe that showed Astren as well as many lands and continents unknown to the team. Many of those other lands were labeled with alphabets never before seen by the team members. A paper on the table had the names of all the group members written in invisible ink. They could read the paper by holding it in front of a background torch.
Two opposing doorways provided in the hallway led to other rooms. The right door led to a large room that had dragon bones on exhibit tables, various couches and tables, and a burning fireplace. There were two daggers no one picked up. <-- Mortimer should go back for those daggers. Maybe they belonged to Kenny. --> Arpina used a pipette from the previous room to collect a jar of a strange liquid from a vat near the fireplace.
This room also had a door into a small sunlit garden under blue skies in a space that had to be within the mountain. Lumi was trapped there when the magic door closed and locked. She extracted around 200 gold from a garden fountain immediately prior to the door autolocking. She escaped using misty step.
The team explored the other hallway exit next. In there they found a room much more similar to the decor of the zombie room in Raven Brook. There was a coffin that Mortimer examined closely and decided was fairly new and had never been used. When Arpina opened a chest near the as yet unexplored spiral stairwell the chest turned out to be a mimic which attacked her. Daumpney, Lumi, and Mortimer counter attacked the mimic until it was dead. Lumi got 2 red rubies for her trouble. Daumpney got a bolt of cloth/silk. Mortimer and Arpina got nothing.
The team then went up the spiral staircase to the next floor. There they found a room that had in its center a large solid stone table or platform. A wooden desk with a candle and papers and a set of skeleton keys was against a wall. The papers had a riddle which indicated the order in which the keys should be inserted into the platform's keyholes. Arpina solved the riddle.
Upon correctly applying the skeleton keys, a secret door opened in a wall of the room to reveal a hall of magic mirrors and magic windows.
The session ended with the party pondering the wall that was opposite the room's entrance. These "mirrors" were more like windows onto otherworldly scenes. The team had not yet figured them out. Lumi barely avoided being petrified when an image of a basilisk suddenly appeared in the "window" at the end of the hall.
I only skimmed this but I did pick up the daggers and I picked up a dragon tooth. Dumphney picked up a bone as well. While trapped in that strange garden, I grabbed some of the purple leaves from a tree close by while Lumi picked a sample of each specimen.
ReplyDeleteEach team member picked up scrolls but only Morti got colored ones.
And the missing cat from the poster was found
